Use Delta Math for Instant Feedback
Delta math is a free online program in which you can customize your own assignments. Once an assignment is created you are able to share it with your team. The students get immediate feedback with step by step instructions on how to solve each problem. This is an awesome tool to use in a math classroom, and the students love it! Participants will create an account, and start building assignments that are aligned to their TEKS for their classroom. They will also learn how to share assignments with other teachers.

Using Desmos for Linear Approximation and Other Applications
Did you know that Desmos can do many other things besides simply graphing functions? Desmos can also deal with implicitly defined functions, perform algebraic manipulation, and animate functions. In this session we show some of the interesting ways we use Desmos in our Algebra 2, Precalculus, Math Models, and Calculus classes. In addition to ideas on how to use Desmos in their secondary math classrooms, participants will also be shown how to find and search the many previously made Desmos lessons.

Attendees earn 1 hour of GT update.

Editing and Revising Original Compositions Using Microsoft Word's "Track Changes" Feature
"Teaching Point: editing and revising are crucial steps within the writing process. Microsoft Word’s “Track Changes” feature supports meaningful and authentic revising and editing of students’ original compositions. The presentation will focus on:
1. teaching students to use “Track Changes” in their independent editing/revising;
2. teaching students to use “Track Changes” in combination with the “Peer Editing” feature in itslearning; and
3. using “Track Changes” to provide teacher feedback. Empirical Data: in the 2nd Quarter, the English III teaching team at Clear Brook High School assigned an original composition which students uploaded to itslearning as a first draft; students were subsequently taught to use the “Track Changes” feature in Word and were assigned peer editing tasks in itslearning. Students eventually turned in a second draft which reflected peer feedback, teacher feedback, and meaningful and authentic self-editing/revising.

Anticipated Structure of Presentation:
1. relate our experience using “Track Changes” by explaining the assignments we gave and by showing a few student samples (redacted and/or used with permission of students);
2. demonstrate how to use the “Track Changes” feature (via projector);
3. hand out a hard copy of a sample and instructions (for participants to keep); and
4. conduct a practice session – participants will use their laptops to compose an original paragraph; next, participants will experiment using the ""Track Changes"" feature, taking on 3 different roles: (i)) student, (ii) peer, (iii) teacher. "
