This session will examine how graphic organizers are not a one-size-fits-all strategy for writers. Many writers struggle to identify the relationships between and among their ideas. Using a concept map with linking words and phrases will help writers of all levels analyze the connections between their topics and subtopics in preparation for persuasive writing. Participants will have the opportunity to create at least two concept maps on topics of their choice and then use them as tools to compose rough drafts of writing that can be used as mentor texts in their classrooms.
Participants will consider how a concept map leads to authentic organization Participants will create concept maps about topics of personal importance Participants will synthesize ideas from my concept map(s) to compose persuasive text(s)
