The Multi-Genre Research Project is a challenging project for any intermediate or secondary student. What makes the challenge worth it is the opportunity for students to engage multiple genres of literature and media to present a cohesive message. This session aims to take up the challenge (and fun) up another level by introducing teachers to the competitive speech event Program of Oral Interpretation and discuss how its use in the classroom can take the Multi-Genre Research Project to another level - while at the same time addressing vastly under-served ELA TEKS regarding public speaking and presentation. "Learn about the competitive speech event Program of Oral Interpretation offered for competition throughout most of the school year, along with the rules and norms governing it. Be equipped with the skills and tools needed to introduce this concept to their students. Leave with an understanding of the pedagogical value of having students engage with multiple genres of literature in an oral presentation format."
