Have you ever been amazed by someone’s ability to play the violin, excel at a sport, solve math problems, or write the most creative stories and thought to yourself that they were born with some innate gift that is unattainable? Current research suggests that there is nothing exceptional about these people and each of us, with the proper conditions, can become experts in almost any field. Participants will gain an understanding of the conditions required to transform themselves and/or their students from novices to experts in any subject area. Among the subjects discussed will be the benefits of deep practice, the science behind developing expertise (10,000 hour myth), physical changes that occur in the brain, myelination, and establishing a culture that fosters expertise.
